There has been a lot of controversy around lately about just how much water we need to drink in order to remain sufficiently hydrated. Do we stick with the age old eight glasses or 2L's a day or do we let our bodies own thirst mechanism guide us? The only problem with our thirst mechanism is that if you are currently dehydrated you wont feel thirsty in the first place.
Then there are suggestions that you get enough water from fruits and vegetables to maintain fluid levels and many people are actually over-indulging in water, the one flaw there is that people generally don't eat enough fruit and veg but that's just a minor detail.
So are we dehydrated or are we over-indulging? I don't know about you but that is rather confusing.
New studies have shown that by drinking 500mls of water before you eat a meal can help to increase the amount of weight lost over a period of time. Sounds pretty simple doesn't it? So if we have 3 main meals a day, that's at least 1.5L's of water, then if we then include the water that we get from foods that sounds pretty close to the traditional 2L's of water a day doesn't it?
Personally I think that our bodies need water, we use up to 7L of water a day just in the digestion process and we can lose up to 2L's just from everyday perspiration! I try to go for 1.5 - 2L everyday, sometimes it's less sometimes it's more. But there was a time when water was the last thing that I would drink and if I compare my body from then to now I feel a hell of a lot cleaner and more revitalised for it! Water is a simple natural thing and our bodies need simple and natural things in a world where more and more things are becoming synthetic!
