You Are What You Eat

After spending 7 years working as a Beauty Therapist and Skin Care Specialist it has become one of my many passions.  One thing that I have learnt in that time is that what you eat plays an even bigger role in how your skin looks than what many people give it credit for.  That old saying "Chocolate gives you pimples" isn't that far from the truth!

One thing that I can report with all honesty is that since I gave up chocolate my skin is the clearest that it has EVER been!

So I wanted to combine my knowledge of food and skin to give you a basic idea of what is good for different skin types and what things all skins can benefit from.

Oily/Active Skin

Avoid anything high in sugar and highly acidic, the two biggest culprits are tomatoes, orange's and orange juice.  These are items that are very common in the every day diet but they can actually be the cause of many skin upsets.

Dry/ Aged Skin

Increase foods that contain Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids, not only is it great for memory and joints but it's also fantastic for you hair, skin and nails.  Foods such as Avocado, Salmon and Nuts are also great sources of these essential fatty acids which are great for your body, brain and your skin.

All Skins

All Skins can benefit from the following foods:
* Low-fat dairy foods that are high in Vitamin A.
* Berries are high in Anti-oxidants which are very important for skin repair and protection.
* Green Tea is another food that has large amounts of Anti-Oxidants!
* Water, I can not say enough about the benefits of drinking plenty of water when it comes to skin care!  The skin is the largest organ of the body but it's often very dehydrated!  Hydrated skin smooths fine lines, looks years younger and glows with radiance! Those reasons alone are enough to make any woman (and man) increase their water intake!

So now you can eat your way to good skin!
